If you were to ask me if I remember anything that I learned in my history classes when I was in elementary, middle or high school; I would tell you that I don’t have the faintest memory of anything. This reading goes into something that is very important when teaching any subject – having students learn, understand, and never forget what they are learning. The picture depicts exactly what I’m talking about as a meme, and it seems that a large number of people in my age range, only remember the excruciating time of memorizing material for class and then forgetting it once the “testing” period was over. This reading talks about the constructivist teaching method where teachers create lessons that give the student a more active role in their learning. I want to perfect this teaching method so that I can use it in my future classroom. It’s time for teachers to stop viewing students as mindless machines that will memorize the material for the test and start giving them the opportunity to truly delve into their education. I wish my teachers had taught me this way because I feel like I would’ve been more informed growing up and it wouldn’t have been so hard for me to figure out my studying methods, how I learn best and have more interest in the world around me. It’s important to me, as a future educator, to have my students learn to love school and I’m going to provide them with lessons that are interesting and fun; rather than boring and sterile.
